What a great day with more than 800 people visiting the Faire!
Our first Mini Maker Faire is done, and we’re pleased as punch at the turnout for both Makers and visitors. The weather outside was near springlike, and the atmosphere inside the Restoration Natatorium was, well, Fairelike.
It was the regular pounding of hammers at the Hillyard’s Technical School booth where guests built their own birdhouses. It was the fascinating music — the Mission Impossible theme and the Benny Hill theme — generated by an electrical arc at the Shocking Science booth. It was the laughter of children and the buzz of questions and explanations at most other booths.
It was education in motion. It was curiosity and discovery. Most of all, it was FUN!
We had a great line-up of Makers. If you missed getting into the Faire this year, watch for information on the 2019 Big Muddy Mini Maker Faire, the first Saturday in March!

This was the first year of The Big Muddy Mini Maker Faire, located in St. Joseph, Missouri. Our Faire launched on March 3, 2018, at the Restoration Natatorium on North Second and Francis streets. Faire hours were from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Until now, you had to travel to Kansas City, Springfield, Omaha or Des Moines to visit a Maker Faire. Now, a faire is in your own backyard.
We join a growing network of Mini-Maker Faires that are selectively chosen to bring this exciting engagement to their local communities.
Maker Faire creates conversations with Makers about their discoveries. With a show-and-tell format for people of all ages, this interactive event brings out the “kid” in all of us. Our regional outreach is to makers, vendors, sponsors and visitors of Northwest Missouri. Our goal is to offer an exciting, educational and entertaining experience.
We invite you to be a part of our faire.
The Big Muddy Mini Maker Faire and Restoration Natatorium request that no weapons be brought into the building while the Faire is operating.
Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these "makers" to show hobbies, experiments, projects.
We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth - a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.
Glimpse the future and get inspired!
